1800 New MBBS Seats: 9 New Medical Colleges in Bihar, 8 in Maharashtra

New Delhi, October 31, 2024: Several states, including Bihar, Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, and Madhya Pradesh, are set to open new medical colleges in the coming years. This expansion will lead to a substantial increase in MBBS seats, offering more opportunities for students to pursue a career in medicine.

Bihar is set to witness a major transformation in medical education with the establishment of nine new medical colleges. While some colleges, such as Samastipur and Saran, may commence classes as early as next year, others like Begusarai, Bhagalpur, Buxar, Madhubani, Sitamarhi, Siwan, and Jamui are expected to be operational within the next two to three years. This expansion will elevate the total number of medical colleges in Bihar to 20.

Maharashtra is taking substantial strides to enhance its medical education landscape. The state has received approval for eight new government medical colleges, adding 800 new MBBS seats. These colleges are strategically located in Amravati, Washim, Jalna, Buldhana, Hingoli, and Bhandara. Additionally, two medical colleges in Mumbai and Nashik, approved earlier this year, will further contribute to the increased seat capacity.

Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh are also actively working to expand their medical education infrastructure. Uttar Pradesh’s “One District, One Medical College” initiative has resulted in the establishment of 17 new medical colleges this year. Madhya Pradesh, on the other hand, has recently inaugurated and laid the foundation stone for five new medical colleges, adding 300 new MBBS seats.

As these new medical colleges become operational, it is expected to alleviate the intense competition for limited MBBS seats and provide more opportunities for aspiring doctors to realize their dreams.
